Cards

We like cards. The old ones especially. And the ones the little guy makes, especially too. The colourful ones, they are regular cards for a common card game that every little kid knows here. You get them at the tobacconist's for a few crowns. I tried to find out where the pictures come from, or what era, they are reproductions of old woodcuts, 19th century and backwards. And I wish we bought the cards we saw in Verona in an antique store, they were small and completely mysterious. Oh, and in Barcelona, in the museum of Frederic Mares, there were old and forgotten cards on display. Domik is making Schwarzer Peter here, or Old Maid card game, this one is called Old Sock (in the middle).

Domík was sick for a few days, nothing serious, and so we had a nice time together at home. I could finally rest too. The school is pretty easy so far so no worries about the lost lessons. Plus I have to admit that I quite enjoyed taking care of a sick boy again, I don't miss his illnesses but I do miss taking care of him when he needs his mummy.

My niece has a new dog. It is very small. I liked picking rose-hips. My kid did too.

Moss

We went picking moss for the Christmas nativity scene. It represents grass there. You have to pick it early, before the snow falls, so that it has time to dry from underneath. This year, it was already dry when we were picking it in the wood. It is a nice feeling, ripping it off from the rock. We found some ruined stone walls, who knows how old they actually were, hundred years, five hundred years? They made the walls while dragging the rocks from the forests, turning the forests into fields. So who knows. Anyway, my dad said he is probably the only one in his town who collects moss for his nativity scene. He might have been the only one since ever, it is not a dying out habit, it is just a unique thing to have a nativity scene that requires moss for grass. Even in the church they have some kind of cloth there. They used to collect moss too, though. So what do I know.

What happened in the puppet's house?

I have seen these puppets recently in a book that my husband got for a translation. They are from the 1930s and they were made at different places in Czechoslovakia. We don't play with them, we just mess with them around. I guess that is the same. The layout here is completely random.
