Book

I was packing a present for somebody but before I played with the present myself. The book is more cool than I expected. I want it for myself now. Anyway, I managed to convince myself and keep packing. I hope the little presentee does not follow my blog. The title of the book translates Circus of the Street.

it was my ...

It was my birthday the other day and the little guy excelled again: in the morning he said, When can I give you the presents? And in the afternoon, What? Is it your birthday today? He also said, You are twenty five, right? Oh wait, no, forty one. He was serious. He is a sweetie. A honey bunch. A bead for luck. I did not get any hand made card this year. No.
Last year he let me take pictures of him, this year it's harder.

puppets

I cannot resist not to take few pictures from the beautiful book on puppets. All of them are from before 1950 and these are just little snips from a great portion. The first ones are little souls from 1910, I don't know how they worked as puppets, they were just flowing around, I guess, the last pic shows backdrops from a play Princess Petrol, 1931. I could have taken pictures of more freaky looking puppets now that I am looking back in the book, a devil with a cubistic face, for example. The book is going to be published in English next year.

Cards

We like cards. The old ones especially. And the ones the little guy makes, especially too. The colourful ones, they are regular cards for a common card game that every little kid knows here. You get them at the tobacconist's for a few crowns. I tried to find out where the pictures come from, or what era, they are reproductions of old woodcuts, 19th century and backwards. And I wish we bought the cards we saw in Verona in an antique store, they were small and completely mysterious. Oh, and in Barcelona, in the museum of Frederic Mares, there were old and forgotten cards on display. Domik is making Schwarzer Peter here, or Old Maid card game, this one is called Old Sock (in the middle).

Domík was sick for a few days, nothing serious, and so we had a nice time together at home. I could finally rest too. The school is pretty easy so far so no worries about the lost lessons. Plus I have to admit that I quite enjoyed taking care of a sick boy again, I don't miss his illnesses but I do miss taking care of him when he needs his mummy.

My niece has a new dog. It is very small. I liked picking rose-hips. My kid did too.
