How am I going to feed the fish with dumplings?

I LOVE this image Magda! That fish is SO great. I remember when I was little and lived in the Czech Republic, my parents bought a live fish for Christmas eve dinner (that's what people did in the 60s). I called the fish Petrik. It lived in our bathtub for a week. My dad could not bring himself to kill it so our neighbor had to do it. My parents could barely eat the fish; for some reason I found it fascinating that one week I had a fish and the next week I was eating it.

Do you know that you just expressed everything typical about this fishy Christmas here? Live fish in a bathtub, kid naming it a human name, dad cannot kill it... Nothing less, nothing more, perhaps just a tree on fire and grandma's bilious attack is missing.

I don't know how close you are familiar with the every day life here but Christmas still looks pretty much the same here, except for the bathtub, you pick a carp in the big wooden tub out on the square and a butcher kills it for you.
