Christmas

Last week, a friend of mine brought me flowers. I was giving her fir branches since we had bought our Christmas tree and had to cut off few bottom branches. So we had our Christmas tree in the room. And she brought me flowers that she had picked the same day in her garden, just before the frost stroke down.

And we put up our Nativity scene, too. A complete one. With baby Jesus and the three Mags from the East. Dominik was curious what little Ježíšek looks like. So I pulled the figures out and we put the whole scene together. Little Jesus brings presents to every family on Christmas Eve, so all the presents magically appear under the tree after dinner. He comes invisible through the window. I had always imagined him as a grown up man with a goatee and a snowy face like I used to see him on a painting in my grandma's house.

Perfect swap. Those wooden nativity figures remind me of my childhood. My parents have a set (made in Germany, I believe) that was given to them as a wedding gift. Those wooden figures are impossible to find in this country, but we're floodded with the Waldorf style ones, with their lack of detail and pastel colors, which I really don't like.
PS about the image of Jesus, as I child I was fascinated by the sacra sindone.

We also put up our nativity scene, I need to put a photo on my blog. I think it is a nice tradition to have, not everyone puts one up nowadays.

My mum puts one too, she has been collecting figures and some years ago it was so big that hardly entered the living room table...now she puts some of them...
Lovely figures.

Oh the wooden figures of your nativity scene are so beautiful. Christmas is long gone by now, but I hope the whole holiday season has been and is a good and peaceful one for you and your family.

I guess you got quite a lot of snow there too (at least parts of your country), but having fresh flowers from the garden in December is quite something.
