Corner view / Menu del día

What is this little guy eating? Apple dumplings! They are halves of apples coated in dough made of ricotta, flour, egg and milk and boiled in hot water. The fruit inside gets hot and you sprinkle the dumplings with more ricotta, cinnamon, sugar and drawn butter on a plate. It sounds like dessert but believe me, we have it here as a main dish. We have other sweet main dishes, we eat strange here. And they are easy to make. The only thing is that each country has little different ricotta, butter and flour so the overall result depends on where you cook it. I have tried it.

I usually make plum dumplings or strawberry. These are raw ones before boiling. Bon Apetit!

My daughter who will not have sweet foods for breakfast, often likes sweet meals for dinner. I'll try your dumplings, they seem easy enough, and we have ricotta! What do you call them?

oh... the taste of my childhood :)

From Chech cuisine I absolutely love knedliky :) And my favourite snack would be parek v rohliku.

And I am so happy you found the mugs that were made in my hometown. Walbrzych used to be known for its porcelain factories some time ago...

Have a happy day,
hugs

These look wonderful, perfect for cool autumn weather. My favourite knydly are made with plums and drizzled with warm honey.

Theresa, I only estimate the amount of ingredients so you have all information I can give you. Dough is little sticky and you need to use flour to make round dumplings. Anyway they are hard to keep them round. You can also shape sort of gnocchi out of dough with spoon, then you don't put fruit inside. Boiling takes about ten minutes, dumplings pop out on surface when they are cooked.
Let me know if you tried them!

This is very interesting to me because when one of my sons was about six years old he "invented" apple dumplings..except we baked them in the oven. His pastry was simpler but they were delicious..with large pieces of apple sprinkled with cinnamon in the middle. I will bake yours for the family, they'll love them

it reminds me when I was living in czech republik, I should make some, it's a good idea. I have to find out where I've put my czech recipes book. I did pernik for christmas with spices I bought in Prague especially for this.
